Tonight we got a call from a friend who exclaimed about the beautiful rainbow. That was in Massachusetts--about 200 miles south of here. We looked outside, and we saw one as well. It was huge and had a faint double, too. One of the more spectacular ones I have ever seen. The old fable about the pot of gold at the end is one thought that comes to mind. But another is the promise that the earth would not flood again. One invokes the mad dash to find the end of the rainbow, which always seems to move. The other, is just to pause and enjoy. One is stressful. One is relaxing. One is without thought. One is to reflect.
We have certainly seem both of these in the past 16-18 months in the mortgage business. The turmoil. The slow times. The mad dash to close deals. The days with hardly any activity. The implosion of deals at the last minute. The excellent transaction that is on autopilot. The frenzied activity with frantic calls to appraisers, title companies, underwriters, borrowers & Realtors. The smooth closing. The latter is something we wonder about. Why don't they happen more often? Perhaps some of it lies within us and how we deal with changes. Changes are always occurring. Recognizing that and acting accordingly can provide more of the tranquility of the promise of the rainbow. Chasing the rainbow's end for the pot of gold is tiring and fruitless.
So, what are you going to do? Chase the Rainbow? Or enjoy it?
